While the bathroom is the place where you practice your routines, like brushing your teeth and taking a shower, it can also elevate your everyday hygiene activities.
“The bathroom is one of the best places to experiment with style,” said David Kallie, MCR, CKBR, CAPS, president and CEO of Dimension, Inc. “Bathrooms in 2025 emphasize peacefulness and personalization.”
Whether you’re sprucing up your current space or planning to build a new bathroom, consider this year’s trends to make the room feel like a retreat.
Wet Rooms
“Curbless showers and stand-alone tubs have been popular for a few years, and now wet rooms are a trend,” David said.
Wet rooms, which include the shower and the bath enclosed behind glass, offer homeowners easy maintenance, accessibility, and luxury. They make the space look bigger, and you can add your touch with tile design because of the large amount of room.
Sensorial Design
Sensorial design, or an approach to design that engages all of the senses, is a trend in 2025.
“The sense of touch is in the spotlight this year,” said David. “Fluted or ribbed detailing and textured surfaces like wallpaper and tiles are becoming more common.”
Also elevating the overall feel of the bathroom are natural stone and wooden accents. Stone is shaping up to be a must-have bathroom material, and it hinders the room from feeling cold and sterile.
Statement Walls
“The bathroom is a place to be bold with design, and so it has become a place to experiment with bold colors,” David said.
Popular shades include sage greens, earthy oranges, deep blues, and taupe. You can pair these darker tones with white fixtures and warm wood finishes to keep the room light.
If you’d rather swap out wallpaper for paint, bold wallpaper adds personality to your room. Botanical prints, geometric patterns, and floral designs are in this year.
Layered Lighting
Task lighting is a priority in this year’s bathrooms. “You might need more lighting when brushing your teeth, but a more relaxed light during a bath or in the middle of the night,” David said. A mix of sconces, ceiling pendants, toe kick lighting, and LED track lighting can illuminate any activity taking place.
Unique Hardware
“Hardware is becoming more jewelry-like,” David said. “Instead of sleek and minimalistic knobs and handles, antique and handcrafted hardware is on trend.”
For example, matte black paired with light furniture is a favorite for some, chrome against a darker color is always classic, and soft gold accents give the room a sense of luxury.
Integrated Technology
Advanced technology is a part of our lives, and that includes our relaxation time. Still trendy are Bluetooth speaker systems, voice-activated lighting, and smart mirrors.
“Especially in colder climates like Wisconsin, we receive many requests for heated floors,” said David. “They not only increase comfort but also are beneficial in terms of energy efficiency and indoor air quality.”
